Strbske Tarn is the highest settlement in The High Tatras and the character of this area is created by the second largest tarn on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. It was founded as the centre of tourism and later new curative houses, recreation facilities and a sport complex were built here.
Through the year the town has a busy cultural life and it is a well-known skiing centre. Two large ski jumps were built for the international winter sporting event, the largest of which just above the tree - line, visible for miles around in all directions. A range of European and world skiing events are held here, including ski-jumping and cross-country events.
It is a starting point of many attractive excursions and trips in the mountains. The steps of tourist usually take them to Mengusovska dolina (valley), the chalet at Popradske pleso (tarn) and to nearby the Symbolic Cemetery. We will spend the day hiking on this path.
