
The Muránska planina National Park
This park is a karst mountainous plateau in the western part of the mountain range Slovenské Rudohorie on the border between central and eastern Slovakia. This karst area formed by a limestone-dolomite plateau with highest summit being Fabová hoľa 1439 m and the lowest point the valley of the Muránky 400m above sea level. More than 90 plant species grow here and this region is also the habitant of bears, wolves, lynx, wildcats, otters, golden eagles, lesser spotted eagles, falcons, eagle-owls and buntings. In the caves are several species of bat. A special point of interest is the Muránska planina and the breeding of the Slovak Mountain horse which is a crossbreed of the Hucul and Nordic horse.Remains of the castle Muránsky hrad bear’s witness to the long history of the region. Another architectural jewel is the chateau at Predná Hora.

Moderately high–mountain tour which starts in Muran village. The first stop is Muran castle – which is divided into 27 parts and bears witness to the long history of the region. We then pass through Muransku planinu and the breeding of the Slovak Mountain horse, a crossbreed of the Hucul and Nordic horse. We then trek through the ice hole, Poludnica and back to the Muran village.
